How to avoid auto repair scams

Let’s face it, taking your car for repair is one of our favorite activities. Usually there are large sums of money to spend and often no doubt in our minds as to the honesty of mechanics to do repair work. As a retired shop owner / operator who can sympathize with people that have been taken for a ride by unscrupulous operators, but I’m here to tell you that there is anything we can do to minimize the chances of falling victim to these people hungry money.

The tip of the first and most important I can give is to seek recommendations from people you know before taking your car for repair. Word of mouth is a very powerful advertising medium works both ways, most people will have the pleasure of telling you to stop if they had a bad experience with someone. Ask around your workplace, talk to members of the family, even your neighbors may be able to shed some light on who will care for your car well and do not charge an arm and a leg for it.
